Real Reviews From Real Customers:
WiredTree Review By Kimberly G.
I have a fully managed, SSD Accelerated Hybrid Dedicated Server with Litespeed Web Server. It includes 8 IP addresses, 4GB of memory, 160 GB of disk space and 5000GB of bandwith per month. I pay $111 per month.
I actually could downgrade my server to a VPS level and save around $40 per month but I subscribe to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it mentality” and everything runs so smoothly right now.
I switch to WiredTree in May 2012 after repeated problems with my previous host. I chose WiredTree because I liked many of their features including a la carte options for bandwith and storage and the service level agreement. I also liked that they were fairly local and invite people to visit their offices in Chicago and actually see their setup.
Also, I called their technical support department (I always bypass sales because I prefer to talk to the ones who actually service the accounts) and they were very helpful. They actually talked me into a lower plan than I thought I needed, reassuring me that I could easily upgrade if need be, but that they were confident it was enough.
When I switched to WiredTree I was getting anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000 unique visitors per month. Current traffic is on the low end of that range. I also host 3 other sites with much less traffic on my account.
My previous host was InMotion and they are not even in the same ballpark as WiredTree. With InMotion I was a victim of repeat DOS attacks which continued to bring my site down causing a loss of income. It would take hours on the phone pushing them to check their logs while they kept trying to convince me that I needed to reduce the number of plugins in my WordPress install.
After resolving the period of time during the repeat DOS attacks, InMotion kept experience datacenter outages that would bring my site down a few times a week. The only outages I have ever had with Wiredtree were scheduled for the middle of the night for reboots and hardware upgrades of which they gave me advanced notice.
Price: 10/10 For the features included, their price is lower than I expected.
With my hybrid plan I have full WHM access and the ability to create reseller accounts. cPanel is included and having the LiteSpeed Web Server option available is excellent. Setting up a new account or adding a new domain is a bit confusing because you have to go into your separate account in order to add a DNS Zone for each domain, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.
As I mentioned, the only downtime I have had has been scheduled for server reboots and hardware upgrades which they send an email about a few days before. They do upgrades and reboots in the middle of the night to have the least effect on site performance.
Technical Support: 10/10
WiredTree shines with their technical support. They do prefer that you submit a ticket as opposed to call on the phone (though you can call) but they reply to support tickets almost immediately. My average initial response time is 8 minutes. Their support agents are very helpful and polite and despite me often asking them questions that are beyond their scope, they usually try and offer some help anyway. They are also available 24/7 with the same fast response time.
When all of my friends were dealing with login attempts and hacks, I have never had a single problem with WiredTree. Their ServerShield hardening service appears to do what it is designed to do.
Before adding the LiteSpeed Web Server to my account, I was a little disappointed by the load speed of my site. Since adding it, I don’t have any complaints and have had compliments on the load time overall of my site.
Overall Experience: 10/10
I really do have to give them a 10. This is my fourth web host overall and I have no complaints after having nothing but trouble with the previous 3. I tried coming up with negatives and they just aren’t there. I have recommended them confidently to many other bloggers with the caveot that they may need to consider adding LiteSpeed and that the DNS Zone thing can be a bit confusing.
